Hi-Lo Diner
Take a step into this nostalgic 1950s era diner and immerse yourself in the smells of your favorite comfort foods. Hi-Lo Diner made Minneapolis it’s home in March of 2016, though it originated as the Venus Diner in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania in 1958. In 2009, the owners decided they needed a break from the hustle and bustle of the restaurant business, and decided to shut it down. After a year and a half of restoration and a couple of moves across the country, the Hi-Lo Diner opened in Minneapolis. The new owners maintained some of the history of the Venus Diner, reflected on their menu with items such as the Venus Pie Trap.
Today, the Hi-Lo Diner is known for its fantastic from-scratch breakfast, delicious pies and their main attraction, the Hi-Tops. Ever think to put pulled pork on a fluffy glazed donut? We didn’t either, but it’s to die for. Their unique combinations of sweet and savory toppings atop warm, glazed fried dough is what takes Hi-Lo above and beyond your typical comfort food. Pair these amazing creations with one of their cocktails on tap, something that’s hard to find in a diner, and you’ll have an experience that we can only describe as “magical.”
Hi-Lo is also incredibly family-friendly. Bring your kids, grandma, crazy uncle, the whole gang. If you’ve got a social media savvy group, make sure to snap a photo and post it on Instagram using the hashtags #iateathilo and #humansofhilo. Stop at Hi-Lo any day of the week (they don’t take reservations) for breakfast, lunch or dinner to get a retro feel with a modern twist!
