About Us
WHO WE ARE
Sports Minneapolis, a division within Meet Minneapolis, is an award-winning sports commission with a proven track record in securing and executing amateur and professional sporting events in the city of Minneapolis and beyond. Sports Minneapolis, alongside its partners, has played a major role in transforming Minneapolis into a championship-caliber host city for a wide range of sporting events.
WHAT WE DO
From the initial planning to crowning a champion, Sports Minneapolis offers event rights holders comprehensive services when hosting sporting events in the Minneapolis region. We do this by partnering with organizers to assist them with venue selection, event services, logistics, hospitality, volunteers, marketing and promotional support, and onsite recognition opportunities to ensure a successful event. The fully staffed Sports Minneapolis team partners with event rights holders to customize each event to meet the needs of organizers, participants, fans and the community.
OUR HISTORY
Founded in 2014, Sports Minneapolis - the 2019 NASC Sports Commission of the Year - has successfully secured local, regional, national and international events, including the 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, 2017-19 X Games, 2018 Super Bowl, 2018 WNBA All-Star Weekend, 2019 NCAA Men’s Final Four, 2021 U.S. Paralympic Team trials, 2022 NCAA Women's Final Four, 2022 USA Fencing National Championships and the 2023 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament. Prior to that, Meet Minneapolis had decades of success in bringing professional and amateur events to the region like the 1992 Super Bowl and the 2001 NCAA Men's Final Four. Today, Sports Minneapolis focuses on attracting, promoting and hosting events of all sizes which increase visitor spending and tax revenue to benefit the local community.
Sports Minneapolis also works closely with Minnesota Sports and Events (MNSE) to help recruit, enhance and produce large-scale events. MNSE was formed in 2020 to serve as the regional sports commission focused on drawing mega sporting events – such as future Super Bowls, the NFL Draft, NCAA Final Fours, etc. – to the Twin Cities area and beyond.
OUR MISSION
To recruit, enhance and produce sporting events in the Minneapolis area for the benefit of our community.
