Getting Around Minneapolis
In Minneapolis, you’ll never be far from where you need to be – literally.
We pride ourselves having a very compact downtown so no matter where you are, we have the options to get you there quickly and easily. An award winning transit system with light rail and buses – taxis, Uber, Lyft – and bike rentals on the streets with dedicated bike lanes all over the city. Or our personal favorite way to get around – two feet.
Buses: Bus fares range from $2.00 to $3.25, depending on time of day. To ride a few blocks in the Downtown Zone, the fare is $.50. “Free Ride” buses will take you along Nicollet Mall.
METRO/Trains: Catch the train on the Blue or Green line. Light-rail transit (LRT) connects downtown Minneapolis with the airport, Mall of America, Saint Paul and 43 other stations.

*The METRO Blue Line will be closed from Mall of America to Fort Snelling station from 8 p.m. on April 23 to 3 a.m., May 14. This closure will impact the following stations: Fort Snelling, Terminal 1, Terminal 2, American Blvd., Bloomington Central, 30th Ave., and Mall of America (MOA). During this period, replacement bus service will be available between Fort Snelling and Mall of America.
- The light rail shuttle between airport terminals will be unavailable during this closure. Please use the replacement buses for terminal transfers. The bus ride between terminals takes approximately 10 minutes.
- Starting at 8 p.m., Friday, May 9 to 8 a.m., Saturday, May 10 there will be an overnight track closure that will extend to 46th

Rent a bike: Find bike for rent throughout the city. Use the bike company's app to unlock a bike, and return it to any station in the system when you arrive at your destination. Learn more about the city's bike share program.

Walk: Built around several lakes and the Mississippi River, Minneapolis's urban cityscape surrounds a lush green park system providing the ideal landscape for walking. Find hiking trails and walk-able paths throughout the city.

Minneapolis/St Paul Airport Rideshare
Terminal 1: If you plan to use Uber, Lyft, or another app-based ride service, your ride will pick you up in the Ground Transportation Center located on Level 1 of the Green/Gold Parking Ramps.
Terminal 2: Pick up is available from the Ground Transport Center, on the ground level of the Purple parking ramp.

I-94 Minneapolis: October 2024 through November 2025
During construction in 2025, motorists can expect I-94 to be reduced to two lanes in each direction between I-35W and the Huron Blvd. exit. Crews will also need to temporarily close ramps along I-94 at Huron Blvd., Riverside Ave., Cedar Ave., and 6th St. and 7th St. near downtown Minneapolis
I-94/I-394: Summer 2025 through Fall 2026
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is repairing bridges and ramps along I-394 and I-94 between downtown Minneapolis and Hwy 100. This project includes realigning the I-394 to Dunwoody Blvd. ramp, replacing the deck for the Penn Ave. bridge that crosses over I-394, and other improvements along I-394 between Hwy 100 and downtown Minneapolis
