USA DIVING ANNOUNCES SIX CITIES CONSIDERED AS POTENTIAL SITES FOR 2016 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS
DIVING INDIANAPOLIS USA Diving, in partnership with the United States Olympic Committee, today announced that six cities are being considered as potential sites to host the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Diving. The Trials will determine the divers who will represent the United States on the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team in Rio de Janeiro.
The cities moving forward in the bid process are:
- Atlanta, Ga.
- Greensboro, N.C.
- Indianapolis, Ind.
- Minneapolis, Minn.
- Riverside, Calif.
- Tucson, Ariz.
We are thrilled to see so many incredible cities express an interest in hosting our Olympic Trials. The Trials are such a special event for us, and we are looking forward to seeing what these cities can offer as we aim to make the 2016 Trials our best yet, USA Diving President and CEO Linda Paul said.
A committee of USA Diving staff and board members will be visiting each of the six cities and will further evaluate the cities bid proposals before selecting finalists on October 21. The evaluation process will continue through the end of the year.
USA Diving will also consult with USOC broadcast partner NBC throughout the process. NBC and NBC Sports provided 14 hours of live and taped diving coverage of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and will provide similar coverage of the 2016 Trials as well.
A final recommendation will be made to the USA Diving Board of Directors and the USOC. A host city is expected to be named in December 2013.
USA Diving is coming off its most successful Olympic Games since 1988, having won four medals one gold, one silver and two bronze at the 2012 Games in London.
