Minneapolis, Apr. 12, 2016 – Join us, as TU Dance returns to The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts for its 2016 spring dance concert—an evening featuring an original commission by celebrated New York choreographer and MacArthur Fellow Kyle Abraham. Commissioned through the generosity of the David & Rosemary Good Family Foundation, Abraham’s new work, Candle, divides the space between solo figure and duet form as a way of focusing on isolation and longing. Created as a 3-part vignette, each section uses songs that Abraham equates with varying aspects of loving and longing.
New work by Uri Sands draws on the choreographer’s recent winter residency in Paris. Starting with the childhood belief that we disappear when closing our eyes, Sands’ No One Will See shifts between dimensions of reality and fantasy, exploring physicality in cycles of life, love and loss.
The evening also includes Sands' Veneers (2006), "a blend of intelligence and beauty, rigorous structure, inventive choreography and integrity of performance so singularly wrought that the work rips your expectations from their moorings” (Camille LeFevre, StarTribune).
