Minneapolis, April 10, 2012The Walker Art Centers Target Free Thursday Nights in May feature the final event in the Sound Horizon music series, in-gallery performances by saxophonist Colin Stetson (Thursday May 10, at 6, 7, and 8 pm) and Picture This, a Walker Shop and Cool Hunting event celebrating the new Marc Newsondesigned Pentax camera (Thursday, May 10, 59 pm.) Other special free events in May include a sampling event with Chef-in-Residence Steven Brown (Thursday May 3, 59 pm) and dance performances of David Zambranos Passing Through (Thursday May, 10 at 6:30 and 7:30 pm). May also features a Teen Art Lounge for young artists (Thursday, May 17, 58 pm), an evening celebrating Minouk Lims first in-depth US solo exhibition, Minouk Lim: Heat of Shadows (Thursday, May 31, 7 pm), and a gallery performance by Walker artists-in-residence BodyCartographyProject (Thursday, May 31, 59 pm, every 10 minutes).

Samplings with Chef-in-Residence Steven Brown
Gather by DAmico, 59 pm
Taste complimentary samples of small plates created exclusively for Gather by one of the biggest cooking talents this town has ever produced (food critic Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl). Recently named a James Beard Award semi-finalist for the Midwests Best Chef, Steven Brown has received rave reviews for his food at Levain and Porter & Frye; now, with the wildly successful Tilia, he adds the title of restaurateur to his estimable resume.
Guests can sample his complimentary menu items and the two featured items will be offered for sale on subsequent Thursday evenings throughout May. (Reservations highly recommended.) On the first Thursday of each month, a new featured guest chef serves complimentary samples and is on site to answer questions and meet guests. Gather features a happy hour and full bar with an innovative specialty cocktail menu every Thursday evening.

Sound Horizon: Colin Stetson

Exploring the outer limits of saxophone range and technique, Montrealbased Colin Stetson (Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Laurie Anderson), whom Justin Vernon of Bon Iver calls one of our greatest living saxophone players, pushes together drone-rock, minimalism, and out jazz in an unorthodox feat that is simultaneously artistic and physical. Space is limited please arrive early.
Investigating the interstitial spaces of live sound and visual art, the ingallery music series Sound Horizon features three of the countrys most respected composers and solo sonic adventurers. Free performances take place within the Perlman Gallery, which features the exhibition Dance Works II: Merce Cunningham/Ernesto Neto. Presented in association with American Composers Forum.

Teen Art Lounge
Star Tribune Foundation Art Lab, 58 pm
Teen Art Lounge is a monthly night for young artists to hang out, make art, meet other artists, and learn new techniques and processes with other teens. Intended for ages 13 to 18, activities are drop-in and occur every third Thursday of the month.

Opening-Day Performance: Minouk Lim, Fire Cliff 3
Burnet Gallery, 7 pm
Join us for an evening celebrating Lims first in-depth US solo exhibition, Minouk Lim: Heat of Shadows, which opens at 5 pm. Minneapolis choreographer Emily Johnson (Catalyst) collaborates with the artist on this one-night-only performance called Fire Cliff 3. The company transforms the gallery into a theatrical environment, animating Lims wearable sculptures around themes of nature, myth and civilization. Minouk Lim: Heat of Shadows runs through September 2, 2012.

BodyCartographyProject, currently artists-in-residence at the Walker, invites you to participate in one-on-one experiments in empathy. The groups project offers a visceral and playful examination of the body at the precipice between nature and culture. The Minneapolis-based dance companys findings will help inform choreography for a future full-length performance.
