STUART PIMSLER DANCE & THEATER PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE - WE, THE OTHERS AT THE COWLES CENTER FOR
(Minneapolis, MN) Minneapolis-based Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater (SPDT) will present a world premiere work, We, the Others, March 9-11 at the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts. We, the Others, written, directed, and choreographed by Artistic Co-Directors, Suzanne Costello and Stuart Pimsler, and performed by the eight artists of Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater focuses on the transformative nature of otherness and asks, Can separation and opposition become a connecting place for finding the beauty in difference?
The program will also feature Tales from the Book of Longing, originally premiered at the Guthrie Theater in 2009, and Ways to Be Hold, which was recognized with a Minnesota SAGE Award for Outstanding Choreography in 2008 and will be performed this summer at the Internationale Tanzmesse Festival in Dusseldorf, Germany. SPDT was honored to be the only US company invited to perform at the prestigious festival.
We, the Others employs SPDTs signature wit and intellectual lens as it uncovers a world predicated on roles and identity.We, the Others features SPDT company artists Kurt Blomberg, Suzanne Costello, Brian Evans, Heather Klopchin, Kari Mosel, Blake Nellis, Stuart Pimsler, and Roxane Wallace-Patterson, with costumes by Sonya Belovitz and sets by Joe Stanley.
Artistic Co-Directors Stuart Pimsler and Suzanne Costello started SPDT in 1978 in New York City, and since then SPDT has grown to become internationally recognized for its compelling and poignant performance work and honored for its exceptional educational and community inclusive programs. The company has been presented by The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Dance Theater Workshop, Jacobs Pillow, The American Dance Festival, and The Guthrie Theater. Internationally, the company has performed in Canada, Europe, Israel, Taiwan, Russia, and Bermuda.
SPDT has been based in Minneapolis since 1999 and continues to engage Minnesota communities through extensive performance work in the states metropolitan and rural communities, through support from the Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB) and the Legacy Amendment. MSAB and Legacy Amendment support also helps SPDT to provide university residencies and elementary school programs such as SPDTs Family Albums, community inclusive projects which engage underserved populations, and Arts & Healthcare programs such as Meaning in Movement and Caring for the Caregiver. The National Endowment for the Arts has recognized the companys Arts & Healthcare programs for Best Practices. SPDT has just completed a major project, Moving Stories, with caregivers from multiple departments at Hennepin County Medical Center.
