Linda Kelsey stars as a neuroscientist trying to understand her beautiful mind
Saint Paul, Minn., March 18, 2015 Park Square continues its inaugural two-stage season next month with Sharr Whites psychological thriller, THE OTHER PLACE. White has become one of the most popular emerging writers of the American theatre with commissions and productions around the country. In this award-winning play, White delves deeply into the mysteries of the mind and the heart, of love and family, of self-knowledge and loss of self to debilitating disease. Linda Kelsey* returns to Park Square as a brilliant scientist trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle. She is joined by Joy Dolo, Matt Wall, and James A. Williams* as her husband. The New York Press said of THE OTHER PLACE, White juggles the various pieces of his play with a skillful hand, folding them together with an uncanny ability to know exactly how much to give away and when.
This is a gorgeous piece of writing -- intriguing, heartbreaking, hilarious -- it does everything I believe theatre should do, it shifts the ground under our feet. says director Aditi Kapil. And Linda is one of the bravest actors Ive worked with, and one of the smartest, I cant imagine anyone else in this role, and I cant wait to see her take Park Square audiences on this ride,
Juliana Smithton is a successful neuroscientist. While she is on the brink of a breakthrough in Alzheimers treatment, the rest of her life seems to be unraveling. Her husband has filed for divorce, her daughter has eloped, and her health is in danger. But in this haunting new play, nothing is as it seems. As past collides with present, and fact blurs with fiction, the truth about Julianas life boils to the surface in this riveting psychological thriller. When THE OTHER PLACE premiered on Broadway in 2013, Sharr White told Playbill.com, I often say that its about the smartest woman on Earth, who discovers that nothing is what she thinks it is. It is a bit of a mystery in the way the play unfolds. As Juliana struggles to understand what is happening to her, she takes us on a journey that ultimately reveals the stark beauty of the human experience.
The OTHER PLACE production team includes Kathy Kohl (Costume Designer), Kristin Ellert (Scenic and Projection Designer), and Michael P. Kittel (Lighting Designer), C. Andrew Mayer (Sound Designer), Sadie Ward (Properties Designer) and Megan Fae Dougherty* (Stage Manager).
