SHAPESHIFT Presents Grey Skies Blue
at The Cowles Center

Minneapolis, Jan. 7, 2016 – After an exciting year— filled with sold out performances, national exposure, and rave reviews— SHAPESHIFT returns to The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts to present Grey Skies Blue, opening in February. Tackling complex themes of family, race, sexual identity, love and betrayal, Grey Skies Blue tells the story of a summer of friendship in SHAPESHIFT’s signature style.

The premiere of Grey Skies Blue follows a banner year in which SHAPESHIFT performed to a sold-out crowd at the inaugural TEDx Minneapolis event in July and to an audience of more than 20,000 fans at Xcel Energy Center alongside national recording artist Natalie La Rose.

SHAPESHIFT uses a fusion of hip-hop & contemporary styles to create high-powered storytelling productions. SHAPESHIFT dancers tell stories of love, loss, and human emotion through movement. Tackling themes from chemical dependency to discrimination, audiences experience a moving connection, sure to stick with them long after the show ends.

SHAPESHIFT productions are passionately produced by the entire cast, and lead by Ashley Selmer, a well-established dancer/choreographer in the Minneapolis dance community. From acting with the ensemble cast in Penumbra Theater’s ‘Amen Corner’ at the Guthrie, dancing with music artist Willow Smith, to collaborating with Prince’s 3rdEYEGirl, Selmer continues to broaden her extraordinary talents.
