September 5, 2014 10th Annual Minnesota SAGE Awards for Dance Announces 2014 Nominees
Minneapolis, Minn. The Minnesota SAGE Awards for Dance announced today the nominees for their 10th annual awards event on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in The Goodale Theater at The Cowles Center for Dance & The Performing Arts. Tickets are $20 (or $15 for students and seniors) and are on sale through The Cowles Center Box Office: 612.206.3600 or thecowlescenter.org. This year, the Minnesota SAGE Awards for Dance will present nine awards to honorees in six categories: Outstanding Performance, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Design, Outstanding Dance Educator, Outstanding Performing Ensemble and Special Citation (which recognizes someone with a strong connection to the field of dance in Minnesota). Awards recipients are selected by an anonymous group of peer panelists for work presented in the past year.
The awards Gala on October 14, 2014, will also include dance performances by Megan Flood, Patrick Scully, B-Boy J-Sun and Praxis. Legendary jazz pianist Butch Thompson will provide music for the evening. Following the ceremony is a reception at Masons Restaurant and Barre with the nominees, performers and friends (free with a 2014 SAGE Awards ticket).
The awards are named in honor of Sage Cowles, a choreographer, performer and philanthropist who is recognized nationally for her dance leadership. Ms. Cowles passed away earlier this year, so it is with heartfelt appreciation for her contributions to Minnesota dance that we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the SAGE Awards.
