Saint Paul Ballet Performs
at The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts
Featuring Five Emerging and Renowned Choreographers
SAINT PAUL Saint Paul Ballet (SPB) presents a contemporary mixed-repertoire program March 20-22. Saint Paul Ballet returns to The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts with a dance concert of familiar line and fresh images. Emerging and established choreographers paint their musical phrases with dynamic grace, heart and engaging sincerity as this fledgling company finds its place in contemporary ballet. There will be three performances: Friday, March 20th at 7:30, Saturday, March 21st at 7:30, and Sunday, March 22nd at 2pm. Tickets are $25-$35, assigned seating at the Goodale Theater. Purchase tickets online or by calling the box office at 612-206-3600.
This show mixes classical ballet, modern, and contemporary work in contrasting pieces by four guest choreographers and the Ballets Artistic Director, Zoé Emilie Henrot. Local favorite Lirena Bratniski brings you her spirited and rich work in the Spanish style Capriccio Espagnol, a premier for Saint Paul Ballet. Another regional premier by returning choreographer Joseph Morrissey, Mein Weg demonstrates his contemporary dynamism for ballet and will accompany a re-staging of the duet One, which received a Sage Award for Outstanding Performer, Andrew Lester in 2012. Other works include Blind Contour by 3rd Law Dance Theaters Katie Elliot, an ephemeral piece that is as much about the practice of drawing as it is about dance and Nadine and Gray Matter by Zoé Emilie Henrot. The program closes with the full company in Shifts, a work by Kinsun Chan that plays with seeing music. The piece was choreographed for Zoe Henrot four years ago; cellist Adam Stiber will join the dancers on stage.
This show is suitable for all audiences, especially those with a taste for variety and athleticism. As an added bonus, purchase the Mein Weg Margarita at Masons and have it your way (blended or on the rocks) to benefit Saint Paul Ballet. Additionally, your ticket gets you two-for-one drinks or desserts (Mein Weg Margarita not included) following the performance.
