Her latest offering, Rickie Lee Jones in Stockholm, a concert film conceived and directed by Grammy-nominated director Ian McCrudden, was released in July 2011. Joness first album, Rickie Lee Jones, came out in 1979, became an instant success and led to a memorable television debut on Saturday Night Live performing her compelling hit Chuck E.s in Love, which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The accolades kept rolling in as she landed a spot on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine that summer and, in January 1980, secured five Grammy nominations, winning one for Best New Artist. Her second release, Pirates, (1981) further established the chart-topping musicians celebrated status, garnering outstanding reviews and leading to a second Rolling Stone cover.
On subsequent releases, she expanded beyond the careful eloquence of the folk tradition, venturing into music of her own creation and melding threads of folk, jazz and Motown R&B. In 1988, she was nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal for her rendition of Autumn Leaves on Rob Wassermanns Duets album. The following year, her duet with long time pal Dr. John on Making Whopee won them both a Grammy for Best Jazz performance. Over the past thirty years, the woman often referred to as the Duchess of Coolville has collaborated with artists ranging from Tom Waits and Leo Kottke to Ben Harper and Alison Krauss, achieving the respect of critics, peers and appreciative fans.
