Rerouted Medtronic TC 10 Mile to Cross Mississippi River on Dinkytown Bridge
New Course Avoids West River Parkway Section Impacted by June Mudslide
St. Paul, Minn. September 15, 2014 The 2014 Medtronic TC 10 Mile will cross the Mississippi River using the Dinkytown Bridge on a new course approved by Minneapolis City and Park & Recreation Board officials today. The course for the October 5 event, part of 33rd annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, required rerouting due to the road closure on West River Parkway caused by a June mudslide.
The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon course is not affected by the road closure and remains unaltered.
Medtronic TC 10 Mile runners will start on Portland Avenue near the S. 3rd Street intersection, the events traditional start area. Runners will run north on Portland to W. River Parkway, use 11th Avenue, 2nd Street, and 13th Avenue to reach the Dinkytown Greenway which will lead runners onto the Dinkytown Bridge, also known as the Northern Pacific Number 9 Bridge. Where the course runs on the Dinkytown Greenway, a lane will remain open for use by the general public.
10,000 runners are entered in the 16th annual Medtronic TC 10 Mile which gets underway at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 5. The race finishes on the State Capitol grounds in St. Paul. This year marks the second time the event has been forced to significantly change its course; in 2007 the course was rerouted away from West River Parkway after the Interstate 35W Bridge collapse.
Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend kicks off on Friday, October 3 with the Health & Fitness Expo at RiverCentre in St. Paul. Activities continue on Saturday, October 4 with the TC 10K, presented by Sprint, the TC 5K Run/Walk, presented by Fredrikson & Byron, and the Medtronic TC Family Events, all held on the State Capitol grounds in St. Paul. The weekend culminates with the Medtronic TC 10 Mile and the 33rd annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday, October 5.
