City appraisers reviewing properties throughout

Residences in several neighborhoods will be visited

June 20, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) Now through fall, appraisers from the City of Minneapolis Assessor’s Office are knocking on doors to conduct official reviews of residential properties in these neighborhoods:

• Linden Hills
• Howe
• Phillips West
• Phillips East
• Midtown Phillips
• Ventura Village
• Cedar-Riverside
• Regina
• Field
• Northrop
• Page
• Hale

State law requires appraisers from the City of Minneapolis to physically look at all properties in the city once every five years. This ensures that the Assessor’s Office has the most current and accurate information to accurately value all properties throughout the city.

The City will send out postcards to all affected property owners beforehand. Appraisers will wear high visibility vests and carry City identification cards. Residents can call 311 to confirm that City appraisers are in their neighborhood that day.

Appraisers will look at the exteriors of individual residential properties to verify property information and may also ask for permission to the see the interior of the home (at the time of the review or at a later time by appointment). Even though Minnesota law 273.20 authorizes assessors to enter homes to conduct appraisals, the same law also recognizes a property owner’s right to privacy. Appraisers will leave “notice of property review” tags on the front door when they finish verifying property information.
