Park Board Completes Dean & Cedar Lake Parkway Trail Improvements
MPRB Vice-President Scott Vreeland, Superintendent Jayne Miller, Commissioner Anita Tabb, Director of Strategic Planning Jennifer Ringold and Project Manager Deb Bartels with Community Members.
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Fourth District Minneapolis Park Board Commissioner Anita Tabb and community partners celebrated the completion of the bicycle and pedestrian trail project along Dean and Cedar Lake Parkways on Friday, September 19.
Each year these beautiful trails continue to grow in popularity for both pedestrians and cyclists, said Commissioner Tabb. I am pleased that we have achieved our goal of increasing both recreational opportunities and safety measures in this park area.
Completed project improvements feature realigned trails and parking lot replacement at Point Beach on Cedar Lake, and new bicycle and pedestrian trails, signs, and benches along Dean Parkway.
The event began at the intersection of Dean and Cedar Lake Parkways, with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, followed by a 2-mile bike ride from Dean and Cedar to Point Beach.
A special thank you goes out to everyone on the Community Advisory Committee who put in countless hours in developing our trail improvement plan said Tabb. With the new improvements these trails and the surrounding parkways are now safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles.
Financial support for this project came from the Federal Highway and Administration TEA21 Program and the Metropolitan Council Regional Park Operations and Maintenance Lottery in Lieu Proceeds.
The trails along Dean Parkway connect to Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles and cross the Kenilworth Trail to trail routes along the west side of Cedar Lake. The Midtown Greenway, a highly popular east-west trail that connects by ramp to the Dean Parkway trails, also runs through this area.
