ST. PAUL, Minn. (June 23, 2016) — The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts has announced that Travis Wall's Shaping Sound: Dance Reimagined, one of North America’s hottest new dance shows, will come to the Ordway for a special one-night-only performance on Friday, Oct. 14. Shaping Sound brings a unique fusion of jazz, modern and hip-hop choreography to contemporary dance. With a dynamic mix of energy, emotion and athleticism, the ensemble brings tremendous musicality and movement to each performance. Lauded by the commercial dance world and immensely popular with audiences of all ages, the company members have been showcased on all of America’s popular primetime dance, awards, entertainment and music shows including: “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Dancing With The Stars,” “Glee,” “American Idol,” “The Voice” and “The 2013 Prime Time Emmy Awards,” among others. The company has toured internationally with an array of the world’s top recording artists and award-winning dance companies.
Shaping Sound was established in Los Angeles in 2012 with a focus on contemporary dance and choreographic artistry. Created by Travis Wall (the 2015 Emmy Award winner for ‘Outstanding Choreography’), along with Nick Lazzarini, Teddy Forance and Kyle Robinson, the company is an evocative collaboration by diverse artists who describe themselves as ‘visual musicians.’ The four dancers broke into public awareness with the debut of the reality television series “All the Right Moves” on the Oxygen channel. The popular series followed these lifelong friends and roommates in their quest to launch their own dance company, which eventually became the enormously successful Shaping Sound.
In addition to the four founding members, Travis Wall's Shaping Sound: Dance Reimagined features Ricky Ubeda, the 2014 Winner of “So You Think You Can Dance.” Rounding out the company are dancers Chantel Aguirre, Channing Cooke, Mallauri Esquibel, Rory Freeman, Daniel Gaymon, Jaimie Goodwin, Kate Harpootlian, Lindsay Leuschner, Briana Morrison and Chelsea Thedinga.
