New Oktoberfest Weekend at Minnesota Renaissance Festival
New Oktoberfest Weekend at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival
SHAKOPEE, Minn., (Sept. 13, 2012) The Minnesota Renaissance Festival is celebrating on September 21 and 22 Oktoberfest featuring authentic German food, vendors, dancers, music and of course beer!
Patrons can wander through the Bavarian Village in the Special Events Field and indulge in German wares and authentic food from local vendors without even having to pack their bags. Bratwursts, sausages, German potato salad, and pretzels are a few of the fares that can be tasted from the Black Forest Inn. German music and dance will fill the Festival as the Flemming Fold Band, The Squires Band and Blumenkranz Dance Troupe perform traditional dance and music during Oktoberfest. Also dont forget to stop by and try Schells Oktoberfest during the FREE beer tasting. Popular Oktoberfest games will be available for patrons to partake in throughout the entire day to test their stomachs and strength.
All patrons fit for a challenge can fill their belly with a German favorite at the Sauerkraut Eating Competition at 2:00 pm at the Pavilion. If patrons are not in the mood for chowing down, they can test their strength in the Special Events Field during the Keg Toss at 3:30 pm or in the Beer Stein Holding Competition at 1:30 pm. Patrons wishing to enter the stein holding contest must hold a full stein with their arm fully extended and perpendicular to their body; the participant that can endure the longest will win! Hammerschlagen, an Oktoberfest game that requires excellent hand-eye coordination, will have patrons use a wedge-shaped hammer to strike a nail until flush into a tree stump. Its much more difficult than it seems, especially with a beer in hand! All are welcome to play the game all day in the Special Events Field. This year we will also be featuring a Mini Beer Pong tournament. All are welcome to check out a new way to play the game, brought to you by Mini beer Pong. Tournaments will be held at 12 and 4pm each day, please arrive 15 minutes before to get registered.
Patrons proud of their finely-trimmed and manicured beards can enter into the Best Beard Competition. All patrons displaying impressive facial hair are welcome to compete at 3:30 pm at the Pavilion Stage in the following categories: Longest Beard, Grizzliest Beard, Most Unique Beard, Best Mustache, and Best Trimmed Beard. Show off your Oktoberfest outfits at the Lederhosen and Dirndl Costume Contest! All patrons displaying their German threads can win prizes in the Special Events Field at 3:00 pm.
