New Minnesota Stadium - a Look Back at Year One
December 3, 2014 (Minneapolis, MN) - One year ago today, the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA), the Minnesota Vikings and Mortenson Construction broke ground for the new, 1.7 million square foot Minnesota Multi-Purpose Stadium in the Metrodome's parking lot. Since then, over 210 Minnesota companies have contracted to perform over 78% of the construction work on the new stadium. Construction workers have provided 613,000 hours of work. Sixty percent of the concrete for the stadium has been poured. In 2014, the new Minnesota stadium was named the host of the 2018 Super Bowl and the NCAA Men's Final Four in 2019.
"The public and private investments in the new stadium are paying off as we have already been selected to host two of the nation's premiere sporting events that will bring millions of dollars of tourist revenue to Minnesota," said Michele Kelm-Helgen. "We are building a state-of-the-art facility that will not only be home to the Vikings, but will also be home to youth sports including football and soccer, as well as host hundreds of entertainment, community and civic events for years to come."
