Thursday, June 27, 2019 Minneapolis, MN — MSP Film Society has announced the full schedule of eleven films included in the 4th annual Lumières françaises, taking place July 12-18, 2019. This week-long festival celebrates the brightest talent in French language cinema and presents the latest award-winning francophone films from rebellious comedies to exquisite dramas to vivid documentaries. All films are presented on the Film Society’s Screen 3 at the St. Anthony Main Theatre in Minneapolis.
The lively 2019 lineup features a cache of gems that include: a special screening of René Clair's 1928 silent comedy TWO TIMID SOULS with live accompaniment by musician Katie Condon; writer/director Eloïse Lang’s laugh-a-minute DUMPED, starring acclaimed actress Miou-Miou and rising star of the big and small screen, Camille Cottin; co-writer/director Philippe Le Guay’s (The Women On The 6th Floor ) eagerly awaited latest, NAKED NORMANDY, about a farming village that may have to bare it all to save their community; co-writer/director Gilles Lellouche’s SINK OR SWIM, an underdog underwater dramedy lead by Mathieu Amalric (The Grand Budapest Hotel ) that will leave audiences uplifted; co-writer/director Rémi Bezançon’s THE MYSTERY OF HENRI PICK, a captivating literary detective story also starring Camille Cottin alongside Fabrice Luchini (In the House ); and, Michel Blanc’s KISS & TELL, a sharp ensemble comedy featuring the great Charlotte Rampling.
Lumières Françaises will also feature the stirring drama IN SAFE HANDS from actress-turned-filmmaker Jeanne Herry (also starring Miou-Miou); Charlotte Gainsbourg’s dynamic performance as the mother of the great French writer Romain Gary in PROMISE AT DAWN; award-winning French animator Michel Ocelot’s family friendly turn-of-the-century adventure DILILI IN PARIS; and two passionate documentaries: filmmaker and activist Amandine Gay’s SPEAK UP revealing the challenges facing women of African descent living in France, and the rockin' WINE CALLING featuring a new generation of French wine makers who rebelliously elevate sustainable and natural techniques over traditional industrial methods.
