The Minnesota Orchestra concludes its 2016-17 “Stage and Screen” series with performances of Michael Giacchino’s score to the 2009 blockbuster film Star Trek on July 13 and 14. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film earned four Academy Award nominations and a Grammy nomination for Best Score Soundtrack. In these concerts, Sarah Hicks, the Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, leads the Orchestra in the thrilling score while the complete film is shown on a large screen above the stage. The performances also mark the opening of Orchestra Hall’s summer season, which features a variety of food and drink vendors, free musical performances and other activities before and after each evening’s program.

The concerts are held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Thursday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m., and Friday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m., with tickets priced from $30 to $90. Sarah Hicks, conductor

Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, has led a broad range of programs since joining the Orchestra as assistant conductor in 2006. During the upcoming 2017-18 season, she will conduct Orchestra performances with Leslie Odom, Jr., Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, Pink Martini, Cloud Cult and Cirque de la Symphonie, as well as the film music concerts including La La Land, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Little Mermaid and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Away from Orchestra Hall, she has recently conducted the San Francisco Symphony, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and San Diego Symphony, and debuted with the Dallas Symphony, Nashville Symphony and Toronto Symphony. Michael Giacchino, composer

Michael Giacchino is one of the best-known and most successful composers working in Hollywood today. He has scored popular and acclaimed films such as Inside Out, Jurassic World, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the three most recent Star Trek films. His score for the 2009 Pixar hit Up earned him an Oscar®, a Golden Globe and two Grammy Awards, among other honors. Most recently he has composed scores for Zootopia, Dr. Strange and Rogue One, as well as the upcoming releases War for the Planet of the Apes, Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Book of Henry.
