As students head back to school and fall arrives, MNHS’ summer sites season is coming to an end. Labor Day weekend is the perfect time for Minnesotans to squeeze in one last summer road trip.

Many MNHS historic sites will host Labor Day weekend events to say goodbye to summer. Visitors can help bring in the harvest during Threshing Weekend at Oliver Kelley Farm or enjoy an evening tour of Historic Forestville by lantern light. Historic sites' season closing dates:

- Birch Coulee Battlefield: closes end of October
- Charles A. Lindbergh Historic Site: open Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in September
- Comstock House: open Saturdays 1-4 p.m. in September and October
- Folsom House: closes second weekend in October
- Forest History Center: open Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sundays noon-4 p.m. Labor Day through June 10
- Fort Ridgely: open Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. through third weekend in October
- Harkin Store: open Saturday and Sundays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. through third weekend in October
- Historic Forestville: open Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in September and October
- Historic Fort Snelling: open Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in September and October
- Jeffers Petroglyphs: open Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in September
- Lac qui Parle Mission: closes end of September
- Lower Sioux Agency: closes first weekend of October
- Marine Mill: closes end of October
- Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post: open Wednesday through Saturday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in September and October. Trading Post open year-round.
- Minnehaha Depot: closes Labor Day
- North West Company Fur Post: open Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays noon-5 p.m. in September
- Oliver Kelley Farm: open Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays noon-5 p.m. in September and October
- Split Rock Lighthouse: open daily 10 a.m.-6 p.m. through third weekend in October. Visitor Center and grounds open year-round.
- W.W. Mayo House: closes end of September
