MILL CITY FARMERS MARKET'S THIRD ANNUAL BREAD FESTIVAL

MINNEAPOLIS (September 10, 2013) Mill City Farmers Market hosts its 3rd Annual Bread Festival with Mill City Museum, sponsored by Gold Medal® Flour.
The Mill City Farmers Market and Mill City Museum are collaborating once again to create an exciting celebration of bread baking in Minnesota. This will be the third annual event spotlighting the age-old tradition of bread baking set in the Twin Cities historical milling landmark the Mill City Museum. This festival will combine educational events at the Market, outdoor baking demonstrations, bread baking competitions judged by a panel of local celebrities, and The Currents Mark Wheat will be the emcee! Join us for these exciting activities and stay to shop the market for your weekly grocery needs dont forget your shopping list!
Mill City Cooks takes on a new look for the day, complete with an outdoor oven and pizza-making demo provided by Lorenzos Ovens. Local celebrity bakers, Zoe Francois and Jeff Hertzberg, along with Salty Tarts Michelle Gayer, will join us for baking demonstrations starting at 10:00 am. During the demos, a fantastic team of judges, including MN Monthlys Rachel Hutton, Sun Street Breads Solveig Tofte, and last years 1st place winner John Jacobson, will be evaluating the submissions to Mill Citys third Bread Baking Competition under two categories: Quick Breads and Yeasted Breads. Contestants must sign-up in advance for the contest. While at the Market, tap your toes to local gypsy-jazz sensation Gypsy Mania while you visit Compatible Technology Internationals booth to learn about this non-profits work in alleviating hunger and poverty in developing countries. Kids are encouraged to participate in a Crop Art project creating their own works of art with seeds! Step inside the Baking Lab in the Mill City Museum to check out two special demos at 1:00 and 2:00 pm with the Grain and Flour Quality Lab team from General Mills.
Whole grains and freshly milled flours are available at the Market from Sunrise Flour Mill and Ellies Flax. Not much of a baker? Weve got freshly baked goods, too! Stop by Solomons Bakery, Very Prairie, Down in the Valley Bakehouse, and Salty Tart for baguettes, whole grain loaves, crackers, muffins, cookies and more.
