Midwest Poultry Federation Serves Up Sandwiches for the Homeless
Community service event part of annual convention being held at the Minneapolis Convention Center
Minneapolis (Mar. 12, 2018) – Hundreds of people in the homeless community will benefit from an event Thursday, March 15, at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The Midwest Poultry Federation and Meet Minneapolis are partnering to sponsor a sandwich-making station, where convention attendees will assemble up to 800 sandwiches as a way to give back to the community. This initiative will benefit Minneapolis Recreation Development – more commonly known through its founder Allan Law, a.k.a. “The Sandwich Man.”
“Giving back to the community is very important to our members, just as it is to Allan Law and those involved with Minneapolis Recreation Development,” said Steve Olson, Executive Director, Midwest Poultry Federation. “Food is at the heart of what we do, and this is a great opportunity for our attendees to roll up their sleeves and help make a difference.”
“The Sandwich Man” will be onsite at 1 p.m. to pick up the sandwiches, which he will personally distribute that night to people in need throughout the Twin Cities. Law has been featured in both local and national media stories for his work serving disadvantaged youth and their families. Law spends his nights driving through the Twin Cities delivering sandwiches and other necessities as part of his “363 Days Food Program.”
Details for the March 15 sandwich-making event:
- Inside Hall A at the Minneapolis Convention Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15.
- Up to 200 participants will assemble 800 sandwiches.
- Kelber Catering, the Minneapolis Convention Center’s onsite catering company, is donating cheese, bread and disposable gloves to make the sandwiches. Jennie-O is donating the turkey.
- Media are welcomed to attend for pictures, video and interviews. Please check in at the Midwest Poultry Federation information desk on the Mezzanine Level above Hall A for access to the event.
This year marks the return of the Midwest Poultry Federation Convention to the Minneapolis Convention Center after 20 years in St. Paul. It’s the largest regional convention in the U.S. featuring all segments of the poultry producing industry.
