Mayor Rybak, Council President Johnson Hail Council Vote on Stadium
City Council formally adds support for stadium, jobs and lower property taxes to Citys legislative agenda
April 24, 2012 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and City Council President Barbara Johnson both hailed a City Council vote this evening to formally add support of a new stadium to the City of Minneapolis legislative agenda at the State Capitol.
The City Councils Intergovernmental Relations Committee, which includes all 13 Council members, voted this evening to support Council President Johnsons resolution to add support for stadium bill that would also create good jobs for Minneapolis residents, secure the competitive futures of the Target Center and Convention Center, and lower property taxes to the Citys legislative agenda. The vote followed a public hearing at which more than 40 people spoke in favor of and in opposition to the resolution.
Mayor Rybak said, After hearing from many people on all sides, the City Council is now officially on record supporting this plan. We will take this vote and build on the momentum happening at the Capitol to bring good jobs and lower property taxes to Minneapolis.
Council President Johnson said, We held a respectful dialogue with all sides heard. Im excited to build on the proposals growing strength here and at the Capitol to finally land a new stadium and its many benefits in Minneapolis.
