Mall of America® steps into the world of virtual reality
Nation’s largest retail and entertainment destination uses virtual reality technology
to reach guests around the world
BLOOMINGTON, MN— July 20, 2016
Mall of America® is stepping into the future with virtual reality content. This is the latest tool the Mall is using to reach its national and international audiences, and to enhance the overall guest experience both on and offsite.
The immersive experience allows guests to see retail, entertainment and live events within the Mall. As the world of retail continues to evolve, Mall of America is looking at new ways to reach guests, partners, potential visitors and new brands.
This is the latest in a series of tech-based initiatives to help enhance the guest experience at Mall of America. Recent announcements include complimentary WIFI and a mall-based app that helps guests connect with a digital concierge, find stores, seek out events and more. The Mall also introduced a paperless valet parking service in late 2015.
“When you’re talking to someone who has never been to Mall of America before, it can be difficult to convey all of the features of our property,” said Emily Shannon, Director of Digital at Mall of America. “Using virtual reality, we can better communicate that we have five-star dining, a seven-acre amusement park, and miles of store fronts.”
The tour of the mall first transports viewers to SEA LIFE, the indoor aquarium that features a 300-foot, walk-through under water tunnel. Next it’s off to Nickelodeon Universe®, the nation’s largest indoor theme park with 29 rides and attractions before taking a break at JW Marriott’s Cedar + Stone restaurant. Guests will then move to Radisson Blu hotel to “sit” by the fire and finally, can experience a live choir in the Mall’s rotunda event space, where 8,000 people joined to fill the area with music and raise awareness for children’s cancer research.
As staff from Mall of America travel across the U.S., Europe and around the world to showcase the offerings of the property, this tools allows a first-hand look at everything the Mall has under one roof.
To view the Mall’s content, users can download the app Vrideo, then use a VR device like Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear, Oculus Rift or others to take a look around the nation’s largest retail and entertainment destination.
