BLOOMINGTON, Minn., (July 16, 2012) - On August 11, 1992, Mall of America® opened its doors as the nations largest retail and entertainment complex, changing the face of Minnesota forever. Now, the place for fun in your life turns 20 on Saturday, August 11, 2012, and to celebrate a number of exciting events are planned for guests of all ages to enjoy including giveaways galore and a birthday party featuring a custom-made cake by Buddy Valestro, the Cake Boss.

To celebrate 20 years, Mall of America has many fun events planned for guests over the next month:

Saturday, August 4

Golden Cans of Pepsi® have been placed in 12-packs at participating Cub Foods. Those who are lucky enough to find a golden can have the chance to participate in an event with a grand prize of a $10,000 Mall of America shopping spree. The Golden Pepsi Can holders will gather at the Mall for the Pepsi Golden Can Celebration event to see if they are the lucky winner of the shopping spree. Five guests will also be chosen on-site to participate.

Mystic Lake will celebrate their 20th anniversary along with Mall of America. Guests can enjoy free Pepsi® samples and live music by Electric Avenue.

Theatres at Mall of America® Celebration

Theatres at Mall of America presents the Class of 92 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mall of America. From award winners to cult classics, Theatres at Mall of America will show free movies daily from the year 1992 on August 1016. In addition, the Theatres will offer free popcorn to all guests on August 11 along with commemorative popcorn buckets and other specials on popcorn through the month of August. Twin Cities Beer Festival

Mall of America will host the second annual Twin Cities Beer Fest, a grand sampling event featuring hundreds of beers from the Americas and around the globe. Guests will be able to sample craft beers, domestic beers, ciders and exotic beers from far-flung locales all while enjoying live music, games and even competitive eating. Food trucks will also be available offering everything from donuts to lobster rolls and tacos to wings.

Cake Boss Mall of America Birthday Cake

Buddy Valastro, better known as Cake Boss from his hit TLC show, will prepare a birthday cake extraordinaire for the 20th birthday celebration of Mall of America. While the Cake Boss himself will not be at the birthday party, Valastro is sure to bring Mall of America guests an unforgettable birthday cake.

Nickelodeon Universe® 20 percent off discounts

To celebrate Mall of America turning 20, Nickelodeon Universe will offer 20 percent off retail, photos and food throughout the Park on August 11.

20 Giveaways on August 11

As a way to thank guests for 20 amazing years, Mall of America will hand out 20 different items, 500 of each item, to guests on August 11. The prizes will be handed out in various locations around the Mall every 20 minutes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

20 Days of Giveaways presented by Ford

Mall of America will give away 20 prizes valued at $500 or more during the 20 days leading up to August 11, the official Mall of America 20th birthday. Guests can enter to win by visiting mallofamerica.com/20-giveaways, fill out an entry form at any guest service desk or snap a QR code in digital advertising on-site to be directed to an entry form online. Prizes up for grabs include a two-year lease for a 2013 Ford Escape, a five-night trip for two to Beijing, China and an ultimate Mall of America shopping package including a $1000 Mall gift card.

Facebook Timeline 20 Weeks Giveaway

Over the course of the 20 weeks leading up to the 20th anniversary of Mall of America, a prize averaging a value of $200 will be given away through the Mall of America Facebook page. To enter, fans must use their smartphone to capture the QR (quick-response) code in the timeline cover photo. They are then redirected to a page where they can enter to win. The grand prize given out the week of August 11 is a $2,000 Mall of America gift card.
