The Gardens
This year, the artistic showcase begins as spectators are welcomed by a stunning interpretation of the famed David sculpture. As the centerpiece of a sculptural garden, the Renaissance era masterpiece incorporates pixel mapping projection technology.
There are 11 flourishing gardens taking inspiration from art genres of the past including Impressionism, Abstract, Art Nouveau, Renaissance and Surrealism to name a few. Each garden takes its direction and inspiration from famous artwork and painting styles or ideals associated with these genres. For example, the Impressionistic garden, a soft, romantic and lush space, takes its inspiration from the freely brushed colors that took precedence over lines of academic painting during this period. The Surrealist garden will challenge observers preconditioned perceptions of a traditional garden focusing on the element of surprise and unexpected juxtapositions. The Art Nouveau garden will be constructed with warm, golden tones that play off patterns and the iconic geometry associated with this genre.
The gardens will include Azaleas, bulbs, conifers, ferns, grasses, roses, Rhododendrons, flowering and deciduous trees, and shrubs. In addition, youll see traditional favorites Tulips, Hyacinth, Daffodils, Amaryllis, Gerbera Daisies, Peace Lilies, Jasmine, Kalanchoes, Cinerarias, Oriental Lilies, Callas, Chrysanthemums, and various ferns and foliage plants. New plants on display are Calceolaria, Gazania, Carolina Jessamine, Monkey Puzzle Tree, Tea Cups Elephant Ear, Firesticks Pencil Cactus, Carousel Hydrangea, Cannas, Skinny Jeans Oak, and three varieties of peonies: Twitterpated, Blitz Tort, and Sweet Marjorie. Plants featured in the show named for artists include Picassos Paintbrush Croton, Picassos Red Cordyline, and da Vincis Mona Lisa Lipstick Vine.
