Minneapolis (Oct. 11, 2017) -- Today, Meet Minneapolis, Convention and Visitors Association officially announced the appointment of Kathy Gerhardt McCarthy as director of Public Relations and Communications. In her role, she will guide the strategy for all communications, social media and public relations, as well as ensure that Meet Minneapolis is viewed as a primary source of information about Minneapolis for leisure and business travelers. Gerhardt McCarthy joined the organization in late September.

“We are very pleased to welcome Kathy to our Meet Minneapolis team,” said Melvin Tennant, president and CEO of Meet Minneapolis. “As an experienced and successful public relations executive in the travel industry, as well as a former journalist, her talents fit extremely well with goals of Meet Minneapolis and Sports Minneapolis to highlight our city as a premiere leisure travel and conventions and events destination.”

Before joining Meet Minneapolis, Gerhardt McCarthy spent nearly 13 years with Travel Leaders Group – the largest traditional travel agency organization in North America – and most recently served as its Director of Public Relations and Communications. Prior to that, she was an Emmy-nominated television sports anchor/sports reporter having worked for KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, as well as television stations in Buffalo (N.Y.) and Chicago.

Gerhardt McCarthy is originally from the greater Chicagoland area and has a degree in Communications from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.
