FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE: Tuesday, August 6, 2019
JUST ANNOUNCED:
After being unceremoniously evicted from his Atlanta home three years ago, Wisconsin-born Jidenna decided it was time to take a journey across the Atlantic Ocean, back to his Nigerian roots. “We had nowhere to come home to,” he says, “so we ended up going back to Africa.” This experience resulted in the creation of Jidenna’s upcoming album, 85 to Africa. The tour stops at First Avenue on October 14.
The Fitzgerald Theater is proud to bring three of National Geographic’s most dynamic and entertaining speakers to its stage. "National Geographic Live events are a unique opportunity for people to meet visionary individuals in person, and to be inspired by the fascinating stories and breathtaking images they will share from their expeditions to the far corners of our planet,” says Danielle Deabler, Vice President of Membership and National Geographic Live. Catch internationally-renown filmmaker Filipe DeAndrade on October 20, Egyptologist Kara Cooney on January 12, and prolific climber Mark Synnott on March 8.
A multi-dimensional artist with a rowdy style without ties to any one genre, Manic Focus transcends sound waves by fusing soulful blues with heavy-hitting bass, creating a resonating tone that’s entirely his own. Over the last six years, Manic Focus (AKA John McCarten… AKA JmaC) has released five full-length albums, each one a new evolution in sound and approach. Now, with his newest album Lost in a Digital World set to release next month, Manic Focus has announced a tour with a date at First Avenue on Friday, November 15.
FEATURED SHOWS:
In the course of Chris Isaak's career, he has released nine extraordinary albums, twelve singles, been nominated for two Grammy awards, acted in several motion pictures and starred in his own critically acclaimed TV series. And to what does he attribute the longevity of his career? "You know, I've never tried to jump on a trend, and I've never had to jump off of one," he says. "I try to do what feels right for each song.” Isaak brings his class act to The Fitzgerald Theater on August 11 for An Evening with Chris Isaak and his band.
