Kevin Smith, Renowned Writer/Director of Clerks,
Hosts a Live Q & A at the State Theatre, Friday, May 1
MINNEAPOLISKevin Smith, the acclaimed filmmaker who wrote and directed such cult-classic film comedies as Clerks and Mallrats, will talk about his upcoming new horror-comedy movie Yoga Hosers and other matters during a live question and answer session at the State Theatre at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015. This Wizard World Presents: An Evening With Kevin Smith is an intimate chance to hear the personal perspectives of a man whose unique blend of gross-out comedy and pop culture references have broadly resonated in artful films like Dogma, Jersey Girl and Chasing Amy. Smith has also written and directed films including Red State, Tusk and the irreverent comedy Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. In addition to comedy and podcasting, Smith has written memoirs including Silent Bob Speaks, Shootin the Sh*t with Kevin Smith, My Boring-Ass Life and most recently Tough Sh*t: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good.
With Yoga Hosers, Smith finishes the second installment of his True North film trilogy, following 2014s Tusk. Set again in Canada, Yoga Hosers continues the saga of a pair of teenage convenience store clerks and yoga enthusiasts (played by Smith and Johnny Depps daughters Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp) fending off evil monsters with the help of a man-hunter played by Johnny Depp.
Smiths stop at the State Theatre is organized in conjunction with Wizard World Comic Con Minneapolis. I'm a big Minnesota fanboth in size and spirit, said Smith. This hockey-loving state was home to Mallrats in 1995, so anytime I get a chance to return, it feels like a sort of homecoming. I'm grateful to Wizard World Minneapolis for bringing me to the show, where I'll be scouring the floor for any bootleg copies of Avengers: Age of Ultron. If I find one, Avengers assemble in my room after the show.
