Ethnic Dance Theatre's 40th Anniversay Concert celebrates founder's artistic vision
Ethnic Dance Theatres 40th Anniversary Concert
Celebrates Founders Artistic Vision
The Ethnic Dance Theatre will perform its 40th Anniversary Concert Series on June 27, June 28 and June 29, with performances at The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (27 & 28) and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (29). The company of 21 dancers, joined by the EDT Orchestra, will bring their annual spring concert series to life performing pieces from each decade of the companys repertoire continuing the artistic vision of founder and Artistic Director, Donald La Course. Many of the members of the EDT Orchestra are McKnight and American composers Forum award winners. Highlights in the program include the Dance of the Silk Ribbons from China, as well as La Courses Appalachian Barn Dance. EDT will be joined by the outstanding vocalist, Natalie Nowytski, and MILA Vocal Ensemble, all of whom have appeared on Garrision Keillors Prairie Home Companion. The Ethnic Dance Theatre is known for its vibrant and valuable traditional costume collection. Besides ornamenting the choreographies, some exquisite examples of EDTs costume collection will be modeled in the lobby during intermissions for audiences to examine the pieces up close.
After the Friday show, stay in your seats for Meet the Company: Talk-Back Series. This question and answer session is an ideal opportunity for you to meet artistic and company members, ask questions, and deepen your live performance experience.
Prior to the Sunday matinee, there will be a Family Day package that includes a Trip Around the World dance workshop with EDT Alumni teacher, Christopher Yaeger, a special costumed meet and greet followed by the 40th anniversary concert.
