Drop the Mic: Co-operation! at The Cowles Center
(Minneapolis, MN, May 2015) - Curio Dances Drop the Mic: Co-operation! is performing at The Cowles Center for Dance & The Performing Arts on June 19th-21st, 2015. Drop the Mic: Cooperation! is a dazzling performance, blending Classical, Latin, and Urban professional dance. Complete with live jazz trumpet, Latin congas, upright bass, and contemporary piano, along-side MC host of Mystic Lake Casino, Marcus Smith and breakbeat DJ of Soundset Festival, Los Boogie, this family-friendly production will have the audience grooving as they are awed by amazing talent onstage.
Drop the Mic: Co-operation! is a production of Curio Dance, a company founded by siblings Dario Mejia and Giselle Mejia. Curio Dances thought-provoking messages awaken concerns about the environment and humanity. The show begins with the Mejias representing Agents of Change as they explore the various facets of society and our relationship with the Earth. The show goes on to liberate the audience with blended movement from Capoeira-Breaking, Afro- Caribbean Ballet, Native American-Hip Hop, and Acrobatic Cyr Wheel. The theme of Drop the Mic: Co-operation! promotes awareness of our cooperation and coexistence with the Earth.
The Mejias have recently returned from a series of international tours with iLuminate and an Off-Broadway production in New York City, where they choreographed and danced with the company at New World Stages.
Drop the Mic: Co-operation! features prominent local dance companies, dance studios, and individual artists; including Native Pride Dancers, BioFreaks, MNMotion, Ira Weatherspoon, Kincade Dance Studio, Heartbeat Inc. and puppets of Heart of the Beast Theater. Show times are June 19th and 20th at 7:30pm and June 21st at 2:00pm at the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts on Sixth Street and Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.
