Diana, A Celebration Exhibition at Mall of America opens today
BLOOMINGTON, Minn., (February 4, 2012) The award-winning exhibition Diana, A Celebration, opens today at Mall of America on Level 4, East and runs through June 10, 2012. The exhibition chronicles the life and work of one of the most remarkable women of her time - Diana, Princess of Wales.
On loan from Althorp Estate, the Spencer family's 500-year-old ancestral home in England, the exhibition contains 150 objects throughout nine galleries, ranging from Princess Diana's royal wedding gown and 28 of her designer dresses to family heirlooms, jewelry, personal mementos, items representing her abundant charity work, paintings and rare home movies and photos.
Princess Diana's charm, beauty and easy grace touched people worldwide during her short and complex life. The stunning collection of her personal items invites visitors to share the milestones of her many roles, ranging from schoolgirl and athlete to kindergarten teacher and royal bride to devoted mother and charity advocate. One section of the exhibition is devoted to her energetic and multi-faceted public life and myriad of charities and causes, including her pioneering efforts in causes surrounding AIDS, the homeless and landmines.
Princess Diana was a beloved figure throughout the world, and more than one billion television viewers witnessed the 1981 Royal Wedding, which exhibition visitors can recall through her resplendent wedding ensemble complete with gown, 25-foot train, diamond tiara, veil, shoes, parasol and bridesmaid's dress. Home movies filmed by her father and scenes from her childhood, her engagement to Prince Charles, and the events leading up to the Royal Wedding are illustrated through video clips, personal mementos, photos, displays and letters.
