The Cowles Center welcomes Black Label Movement
Fresh off of TEDMED, Black Label Movement Brings Premieres and Brings Repertory Work to The Cowles Center
Minneapolis, Minn. June 6 , 2013 The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts is thrilled to welcome back Black Label Movement June 2830 in The Goodale Theater. One of Minnesotas most dynamic and adventurous dance companies, Black Label Movement (BLM), led by 2012 McKnight Fellow and City Pages Artist of the Year Carl Flink closes the 2012-13 Cowles Center Performance Season with a feast of daringly physical dance, compelling design and original, live music. BLMs sixth Minnesota season features the world premiere of Flinks Whack-A-Mole set to original music created by composer Greg Brosofske. With a cast of 17 performers, Whack-A Mole examines the frenetic, creative and exhilarating physical world of communities responding to the aftermath of natural or man-made disaster and the cycle of rebirth. SAGE Award winning lighting designer Marcus Dilliard and scenic designer Annie Katsura Rollins join Flinks creative team to envision this propulsive new work. The evening concludes with the return of Flinks Field Songs accompanied live by Minnesota roots rock band the Jinnies on a grass-covered stage. In 2009, the St. Paul Pioneer Press declared Field Songs a sod-busting, big-hearted dance where dancers hurtle and bound through space with unfettered athleticism, tempering big, bold moves with a rugged lyricism as shapely and weathered as a piece of driftwood.
