Broadway Director and Choreographer Joshua Bergasse offers Master Dance Class
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Sept. 9, 2019) — Local dancers will have the opportunity to learn from one of the hottest choreographers on Broadway as they join Joshua Bergasse, Tony-nominated choreographer of On The Town, for a dance for musical theater master class that will be offered later today.
Bergasse is the director and choreographer for the Ordway Original Smokey Joe’s Cafe: Songs of Leiber and Stoller and a faculty member at Broadway Dance Center and a guest teacher at Steps On Broadway, where he teaches classic jazz styles for musical theater.

The Ordway’s Smokey Joe’s Cafe: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller, begins performances tomorrow (Sept. 10) and runs through Sept. 22.
Smokey Joe’s Cafe: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller is a Grammy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated smash that features 40 of the greatest songs of the past century, including classics like “On Broadway,” “Stand by Me,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Love Potion No. 9.”
During their 61-year partnership, songwriters Jerry Leiber (d. 2011) and Mike Stoller left their mark in music genres including pop, country, jazz, cabaret, rhythm and blues and rock and roll. The duo was responsible for the Elvis Presley hits “Loving You” and “Hound Dog,” along with “Jailhouse Rock.” They were also responsible for the Coasters’ hit songs such as “Searchin',” “Yakety Yak” and “Charlie Brown.” Their songs have been covered by notable classic and contemporary artists such as Aretha Franklin, Liza Minelli, John Lennon, Johnny Cash and Haley Reinhart, anchoring their presence as one of the most influential songwriting duos of all time.
