Bold North™ Zip Line across Mississippi River Announced as Feature Attraction during Super Bowl Fest
MINNEAPOLIS – Hosting Super Bowl LII gives Minnesotans and one-million visitors alike an opportunity to make unforgettable memories, which now includes the chance to soar across the Mississippi River suspended 100 feet in the air. Marking 52 days from the big game, the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee unveiled the Bold North™ Zipline, a feature attraction for the 10 days of Super Bowl festivities, where fun seekers will be enticed to thrill their senses by ziplining 750 feet from a launch tower on Nicollet Island to a landing tower across the Mississippi River. Sponsored by XOOX, a lifestyle backpack brand founded by former Minnesota Vikings player Robert Griffith, the Bold North Zipline will open on January 26, 2018 and run through gameday on Sunday, February 4, 2018.
“Hosting the Super Bowl in Minnesota feels like a thrill ride in its own right, so we figured why not provide this thrilling opportunity to each of our one-million visitors,” said Maureen Bausch, CEO for the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee. “The Bold North™ Zipline is one of the many ways the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee is working to create a truly unique experience in Minnesota with something for everyone to enjoy.”
The Bold North™ Zipline will be operated by Ziptrek Ecotours, a global leader in zipline based adventure tours. Ziptrek specializes in urban ziplining and operated a similar zipline experience for Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. A parallel 4-line set up will allow four riders at a time to travel 750 feet across the Mississippi River with fun-seekers traveling at speeds of 20-30 mph as they glide across the Mississippi River.
Polaris, a Host Committee Founding Partner, will provide transportation for zip line participants. Custom-wrapped Polaris RANGER® and GEM® vehicles will transport guests from the Bold North™ Zipline headquarters on Nicollet Mall to the launch tower and again back to the headquarters from the landing tower. Polaris staff will serve as drivers of the vehicles, helping to provide a unique experience for participants.
Mayor-Elect Jacob Frey joined the Host Committee at the press conference. He will be the first to travel across the Mississippi River at the Bold North™ Zipline.
Tickets to ride the Bold North™ Zipline will cost $30 and are available for pre-purchase at mnsuperbowl.com/zipline. Tickets will also be available for purchase at Super Bowl LIVE presented by Verizon during the 10-day festival. The Bold North™ Zip Line will be limited to 10,000 riders over the 10 days, so those interested are encouraged to purchase ahead of time.
The Bold North™ Zipline is just one of the many attractions at Super Bowl LIVE presented by Verizon, the free, 10-day festival that will include music, food, fun, and much more. Earlier this month, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee announced the first 19 of many performers and musical acts who will play free concerts at the Verizon Upstage by Ice Mountain on Nicollet Mall.
Last week, the NFL began selling tickets to Super Bowl Experience Driven by Genesis - pro football’s interactive theme park, an event that offers fans a unique chance to get involved in the festivities surrounding Super Bowl LII. Tickets can be purchased on nfl.com/SuperBowlExperienceOnSale.
