Artist and student teams artistically transform
15 pianos at Mall of America®
WHAT: Over the course of two days, 15 artist/student teams will transform old and worn pianos into 15 colorful and fascinating works of art in front of crowds at Mall of America®. Keys 4/4 Kids, a local nonprofit that accepts and sells donated pianos for charity, is teaming up with St. Paul Mayors office and MOA to provide guests and spectators an exciting musical and artistic experience.
During this years color-coded themed event, professional artists will be paired with a local aspiring youth artist and set free to paint a real, working piano to represent and artistically interpret a particular color. After the transformation process is complete, these pianos will be placed in outdoor locations across the Twin Cities on sidewalks, parks and other public spaces. Pianos will remain in these locations for three months this summer for the public to play and enjoy. There will also be several pop-up locations of these vibrant pianos at fairs, festivals and other events including the annual Grand Old Days Parade.
Guests are invited to leave a colorful handprint on one piano to break a world record of the most handprints on one piano. Mall goers will enjoy live musical performances every hour on the hour throughout each day.
