Immigrant Kitchen by BIPOC Foodways Alliance
BIPOC Foodways Alliance is thrilled to announce "Immigrant Kitchen," an immersive culinary series launching at Harriet Brasserie in Linden Hills on Tuesday, April 30, 2025, at 6 p.m. This inaugural dinner will kick off a vibrant series of storytelling events, where home cooks who immigrated to the United States share their cherished dishes and personal stories.
As a 501c3 Twin Cities-based nonprofit founded in 2024 by Mecca Bos, Sean Sherman, and Sabrina Fluegel, BIPOC Foodways Alliance is dedicated to providing a platform for BIPOC individuals to express their authentic narratives through the art of home cooking while fostering connections across diverse cultural communities. "Immigrant Kitchen" is designed to be an immersive experience where immigrant communities share their unique stories through their culinary heritage, while inviting local communities to participate – cultivating empathy and understanding which works towards antiracism.
This inaugural and inspiring culinary event will highlight authentic immigrant stories through the lens of home cooking from two incredible co-hosts, Phon Sann and Sina War, who will present dishes from their Cambodian backgrounds. The vision behind this new series is that “immigrants” are real people with real stories. Immigrant Kitchen will provide a platform for those people to tell their stories through the lens of home cooking, and by examining the cooking of these communities, we can better understand one another and our shared humanity.
