'Tis the Season
The 2016 Meet Minneapolis Annual Meeting is scheduled for March 1 at the Minneapolis Convention Center with the theme of “Destination Transformation". This is the same name as our recently launched destination master plan, which is our year-long effort to plan for the future of Minneapolis as a place that draws more visitors (and residents) than ever before. Meet Minneapolis Director of Market Research, Kevin Hanstad will be joined on stage with Kjersti Monson, City of Minneapolis Director of Long Range Planning. These two well-regarded experts will elaborate on a range of exciting developments in town and share with those in attendance challenges ahead we must plan for to truly become a world-class destination. Our vision is to be the Destination of Choice as we're poised to occupy an increasingly more prominent spot on the world stage. As an attendee to our annual meeting, you will also have the opportunity to shape the direction of this plan.
Even though 2015 was a hugely successful year for Minneapolis in drawing visitors and convention business, we cannot afford to rest on our laurels. Cities around the world are investing in infrastructure and policies that will position them even more prominently as destinations. Just a quick glance around town will tell you that Minneapolis is a city in transformation, and the best is yet to come. But we must continue to coordinate the conversations and projects that are underway to make sure we take full advantage of our opportunities.
During our annual meeting we will celebrate the successes of a year that few of us thought could top the record performance our local travel/hospitality industry had in 2014. But we did it, and the 32,000 Minneapolis hospitality employees have a lot to cheer about. We hope you can join us on March 1.
