Thank you National Collegiate Hockey Conference
The NCHC Frozen Faceoff tournament was born in Minneapolis in 2014. Our Target Center colleagues Sandy Sweetser and Steve Mattson worked diligently to provide the support NCHC needed. Our Sports Minneapolis and Meet Minneapolis teams continue to elevate the level of service to NCHC and its loyal fans and the teams they follow. Many of our Meet Minneapolis partner companies contributed to the success of the event.
Commissioner Fenton had high praise for some of those partners including the NCHC team hotels, The Westin, Marriott, Crowne Plaza and Radisson Blu. He also noted the great experience he had at the headquarter hotel, the Marquette.
During our informal download with Commissioner Fenton, he noted the growth in the city he has seen in the four short years he has put on the tournament here. We discussed the many projects currently underway. Not only is Nicollet under construction but his venue, Target Center is also undergoing a major transformation. His hotel, the Marquette is also in the midst of a major renovation. He acknowledged the short term inconvenience of so many simultaneous projects but he is excited about the finished downtown product and what it will mean to his fans this time next year for the tournament.
He understands the sense of urgency we have in completing projects driven by a convergence of circumstances including preparing for Super Bowl LII. He knows his conference's team and fan base will benefit from the additions and upgrades.
Matt Meunier, Senior National Sports Account Executive for Sports Minneapolis summed it up by saing, “Soon, Target Center will be transformed into one of the best arenas in the country – it’s only fitting for the best hockey conference to play in one of the newest and best arenas.”
So, thanks Mr. Commissioner for the opportunity to work with the NCHC. We apologize for the temporary inconveniences of the many projects currently underway, but it is all part of our plan to enhance the Minneapolis visitor experience for our loyal visitors like the NCHC teams and their fan bases. We'll see you in 2018 and hope for many more years of this great partnership after that.
