Are We Ready For Some Football?
In the coming weeks, we will discuss various aspects of the destination experience that visitors will enjoy during their stays in our community in our Meet Minneapolis Minute. We'll hear from The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee, Meet Minneapolis team members, as well as other community leaders to give us some insight into what is still left to do to prepare, and more importantly, how we plan to see a lasting impact from having hosted the event.
The scope of the Super Bowl is much greater than when we hosted it in 1992. The event has grown to require a total of 19,000 hotel rooms for officials, sponsors, teams and fans. Currently there are more than 239 venues on hold to accommodate all of the ancillary events that are associated with the Super Bowl. And for Super Bowl Live and the Bold North activities, we are working to attract more than 1 million visitors to the 10 days of events leading up to the big game.
We have a clear understanding that hosting the Super Bowl is an infrequent occurrence for most cities and although we hope the gap won’t be another 26 years until the next one, we have to take full advantage of the opportunity. That is why our team is in full support of the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee by actively participating in a number of their committees, including:
- Marketing
- Tourism
- Wayfinding
- Cuisine
- PR/Communications
- Hospitality
- Volunteers
- Client/Sales Activities
We look forward to briefing our partners and stakeholders on our Super Bowl readiness in the coming weeks. That countdown clock is a constant reminder of our date with destiny. I have no doubt that we will be ready for some football!
