A Strong Foundation
Our local travel/hospitality industry has had two consecutive record years, and we all want to continue that momentum. As we work to ensure our future success, Meet Minneapolis has taken a hard look at both the internal organization and the external environment through the recently completed Destination Innovation initiative that helped us to streamline the organization and realign our staff. We are also in the midst of our strategic tourism master planning process to help us to determine what Minneapolis will look like in 15 years.
But none of these grandiose plans have even a glimmer of a chance to succeed unless we empower our team. That’s why we looked at the very core of our day-to-day life by evaluating our organizational values. We chose to tap into a group of individuals representing each of our departments who were not on a leadership team. This was in contrast to many of our decisions that emanate from the leadership team and then are rolled out.
The process was very collaborative and yielded a great set of values that represent our culture and reinforce our vision. Our internal staff working group made up of department representatives reviewed our existing seven organizational values and determined that seven was excessive and hard to even remember. The group concluded that some of the previous values were redundant and others were hard to define or to see being exhibited by fellow team members.
That led to the creation of four values, which now include definitions to help guide us. The new organizational values and their descriptions are:
Accountability
At the core of accountability is reliability and personal responsibility; we value the ability of our staff and organization to honor the commitments we make acting with honesty and integrity.
Inclusion
Meet Minneapolis intentionally includes under-represented groups within our organization and our interaction with the community. Embracing variety enhances our ability to adapt our business and benefit Minneapolis.
Passion
Strong enthusiasm, devotion, and desire in all that we do; inspired by the love for our community and made tangible through our work.
Collaboration
Drawing on internal and external talents and resources, we share individual and collective wisdom in serving and benefitting our teammates, our partners and our community.
These values will help us to interact better as team members and also as we work with all of the corporate and community partners we rely on to make Minneapolis a better place to live, work and visit.
