2015: A record year
Remember how we called 2014 the Best. Year. Ever. because it was the most successful year in hospitality Minneapolis had ever seen? Well, 2015 was even better. Through the efforts of the Meet Minneapolis team, or partners, and the whole hospitality industry, 2015 is one for the record books. You can hear all about it at our annual meeting next week, but in the meantime, here are some highlights:
- Hotel occupancy for the year hit a record high, at 74 percent.
- The Minneapolis Convention Center generated record revenue, at $18.1 million.
- The Convention Center hosted 384 events, with total attendance of 787,000.
- We set a record for booking future room nights: 589,000 in total, including conventions, sporting events, and leisure travelers.
- We booked 604 future events and conventions.
- We raised $2.4 million of private revenue, leveraging our annual funding from the City of Minneapolis.
- The year’s events led to an estimated direct economic impact of $430 million.
- We had 495,000 visits to our Minneapolis.org website.
- Our stories generated more than 2.2 billion potential earned media impressions.
- We signed on 95 new partners, bringing our total to nearly 600.
- Minneapolis now has 32,905 hospitality jobs, which is 10 percent of all jobs in the city.
