Prosperity and Disparity in Minneapolis: How Wealth Distribution Impacts Communities
Leisure and hospitality employment in Minnesota has decreased by 73,000 (-23%) since the beginning of the pandemic, according to Explore Minnesota Tourism. In Minneapolis as many as 20,000, of the pre-COVID 19 high water mark of 36,000, leisure and hospitality workers have lost their jobs. Historically, unemployment rates for Black and Hispanic people are significantly higher than that of their white counterparts. In this session, Sharon Sayles Belton dives into the root causes of these economic disparities in Minneapolis between Minnesota’s BIPOC and white populations.
