Nicollet Avenue

About the Neighborhood

Follow your stomach to Nicollet Avenue, otherwise known as Eat Street! Diverse and delicious, it's where east meets west, north meets south and the upper Midwest gets a good Chile Relleno, Szechwan Wonton, Spanakopita or Wiener Schnitzel. African, Asian, American, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, or Mexican: it's temptation in the form of over 55 different restaurants and food markets in the span of about 17 blocks.

Eat Street begins near the front door of the Minneapolis Convention Center on Grant Street and heads south along Nicollet Avenue to the new Midtown Greenway at 29th Street. While you are in the neighborhood, be sure to visit the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Children's Theatre Company, Music Box Theatre and many other cultural venues.

What's New

Eat Street continues to grow and improve. Azia, on the northwest corner of 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, is opening "Anemone" next door, offering sushi and other Asian-influenced delicacies.

Also expanding earlier this year is Big E's, serving inspired Southern cuisine and now also offering dine-in opportunities with fabulous entertainment.

Bad Waitress, a café and wine bar, has opened on the northeast corner of 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue in the new Arts Quarter condominium complex.

And, in the same vicinity, at 2608 Nicollet Avenue, The Peninsula, featuring Malaysian cuisine, will also open its doors this season.

Things to Do

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Children's Theatre Company, both just a few blocks off of Eat Street, sparkle with entertainment options.

The period rooms at the Institute are a must-see. The museum also features an encyclopedic collection of artifacts, art and sculptures spanning more than 5,000 years. Don't miss the Tony-award winning Children's Theatre, Minneapolis Institute of Arts' friendly neighbor.
