About the Neighborhood

Welcome to Northeast Minneapolis! Here you'll find a community rich in character, history, entrepreneurship, social service and creativity.

This unique corner of the city is known for its industrial, diverse heritage and medley of ethnicities, restaurants, parks and art. Originally the home of the Polish, Ukrainian, Lebanese and German immigrants, recent years have seen an influx of Latino, East African and Arab populations.

The result is an area rich in diversity linked to the churches, schools, service organizations and businesses that have long remained. The area is currently experiencing a fantastic revitalization with its old warehouses and factories being put to new use. From the community's most beloved institutions and historic residences to the trendy boutiques and welcoming coffee shops, enjoy your visit in Northeast Minneapolis.

Things to Do

There is no lack of great shopping experiences. Be sure to check out the Johnson Street merchants and the 3-block stretch of 13th Avenue. Along East Hennepin Avenue, near the Mississippi River, you will find countless shops, bars, dance clubs and markets.

Another main attraction of the area is the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. Designated by the city of Minneapolis in 2003, the Arts District is the home of more than 400 artists. Regularly scheduled open studio and gallery crawls are the best times to experience what is rapidly becoming the premier location of arts and culture in Minneapolis.
